Getting Started

Getting Started Training is where you start to plant roots as a Scouting Volunteer

There's a core of (mostly e-learning) to complete within  5 months of joining.

(If you require offline alternatives in order to make Scouting accessible to someone please contact training@glne-scouts.org.uk)

Try it in 5 Weeks!

As a new volunteer we challenge you to complete Getting Started training in 5 weeks!

... because without Getting Started training you can't do any of these...

Wear any badges on your uniform.

Be the Leader in Charge
(or run a meeting without someone else there)

Hold an activity permit.

Depending on your District, they might also say that you can't:

Attend overnight during residentials;

Take part in some activities
(e.g. those away from the hall)

And let's be honest... we'd all be upset if we couldn't do at least something on that list!

How to complete it?

You might already have been assigned a Training Advisor / Learning Assessor, who can guide you through the process. If not, then we offer Google Classroom to support your learning, or more can be found at Scouts.org.uk

Google Classroom

We also offer Google Classroom as an option to help navigate through the modules and what to do each week for:

Group / District / County Lead Volunteers

We're not quite ready for you yet sorry!
Please contact your assigned Learning Assessor / Training Advisor.

Support outside of Google Classroom

The document templates used in Google Classroom are also available to download if you need help with your Personal Learning Plan or getting together the Validation Activities for Tools for the Role.
